Police: Greenwood man hits utility pole, flees into apartment

A Greenwood man went from striking a utility pole with his vehicle on Sunday to being arrested on a first-degree burglary charge, according to Greenwood police.

Mondrekus Antonio Scurry, 27, of 141 S. Marshall Circle, Unit 210, was also charged with possession of marijuana and leaving the scene of an accident.

A man’s vehicle struck a pole in the area of Pressley Street at about midnight but the driver fled the vehicle before police arrived, according to a report. An officer saw the man standing in a yard near the scene, the report said, and he walked between two apartments out of the officer’s view.

After police drove around to the rear of the complex, officers said they spotted the man entering a unit through its rear door to avoid authorities.

Female occupants were “forcefully pulling” the man out the apartment’s front door when police arrived on scene, the report said.

The man also had 4.4 grams of a “leafy green substance” later determined by police to be marijuana, the report said.
