Why can't we shake the winter season?

Chicopee – Our last full day of winter was March 19th, but since than the weather has only felt like spring a couple of times.

Monday morning a quick moving system could drop off some light snow. Snowfall isn’t out of the question for this time of the year.

Even though our snowfall average lessens as we continue through spring, April’s average snowfall total is 1.6 inches of snow.

All we need is temperatures to be cold enough and we could see snow all the way up until May, even though that is rare. The jet stream has dipped below New England bringing in colder air from the north.

When it does snow in the spring, most of the snow falls on grassy surfaces, mainly because the grass cools faster. Roads tend to hold onto the warm air longer. Of course this all depends on the temperature, the intensity of the snow, and the duration of the storm.
