DUNCAN, OK (KSWO)- In honor of World Breastfeeding Month, a mother to mother support group called La Leche League held their sixth annual celebration event in Duncan.
That event was called “Live, Love, Latch.” The nationwide event is dedicated to supporting those that choose to breastfeed.
“If your babies got to eat it’s just like anything you don’t want to cover up while you’re eating so, I feel like you should just do it,” said Summer Condren, nursing mother. “Normalize it. I mean its natural, our bodies are meant to do that.
Wednesday was Condren’s third year attending the event held at Duncan Regional Hospital.
She has three children including her five-month-old daughter Liora. Condren said she breastfeeds her daughter now but didn’t breastfeed with all her children.
“My son, I didn’t get to breastfeed him, and he had a lot of allergy problems,” she said. “So we tried all different kinds of formulas and I didn’t have much support breastfeeding him.”
She said that’s what fueled her to start going to the breastfeeding event’s each year.Which is what Event Organizer Stephanie Dresser said the day was about —encouraging those mothers that choose to breastfeed.
“So often we have moms that feel pressures to discontinue breastfeeding,” said Dresser. “We want them to be informed and able to meet their goal with that.”
As for Condren, she said she plans to donate breast milk in the future. She encourages moms to just feed their babies how they choose.
“Just fed is best even if you can’t breastfeed,” she said. “As long as your baby is being fed just push through and do what you feel is right for your baby. Because at the end of the day as long as their happy, you’re happy that’s all that matters.”
The organization counts all participants from the nationwide breastfeeding celebration. They plan to announce that number at the end of August.
